Andy Murray unsure about Olympics participation

Andy Murray has raised doubts about his participation at the Olympic Games.

The two-time gold medal winner admits that he might not represent Team GB at this summer's event in Paris because the clay surface at Roland Garros puts strain on his back.

Murray told reporters: "I need to see what happens with the Olympics.

"I'm not 100 per cent sure what the situation is there with the doubles yet and whether or not I will play if I just get in the singles. I don't know.

"My body didn't feel great playing on the clay in the last month or so. I had quite a few issues with my back, so I don't know if I would go just for singles.

"I need to wait a little bit and see on that."

Murray's grass-court campaign started in disappointing fashion with a straight sets defeat to Marcos Giron in the first round of the Stuttgart Open on Tuesday (11.06.24) and the former world number one admits that he needs to start playing better if he is to win more matches.

He said: "I’ve been struggling with breaking serve. I’ve not broken for a few matches and that’s usually been a strength of mine.

"On a quick surface like grass, the sets are tight. When your chances come you have to be clinical – he was and I wasn’t.

"My game needs to improve, the level of tennis on the tour is high. I need to play better if I want to win more matches."
