Andy Robertson: Scotland can't have regrets at Euro 2024

Andy Robertson doesn't want Scotland to leave Euro 2024 with "any regrets".

The Scots take on hosts Germany in the opening match of the tournament on Friday (14.06.24) and the captain feels the team should embrace the challenge of trying to be the first Scottish side to make the knockout stages of a major tournament.

Robertson said: "We know that's what's at stake. We've got a lot of incentive but one is becoming that legendary squad - that has to drive us forward.

"We have to be at our best and if we can do that, who knows where we'll be come 23 June."

The team ended a 23-year absence from major tournaments at Euro 2020 but the Liverpool defender hopes the team perform better this time around as they only managed a single point at the Covid-impacted championship three years ago.

Robertson said: "The first Euros was massive for us, but now we want to compete.

"Last time, we felt in the England game we did pretty well but let ourselves down in the others. We don't want to have any regrets this time.

"What's the worst that can happen? We go on to a long list of teams that haven't made it out the group, or we put ourselves in a position to make history.

"We're excited by the challenge, we're excited about what's ahead, and if we perform the way I know we can perform then I'm confident we can make history."

Manager Steve Clarke doesn't want his team to get caught up in the occasion of opening the tournament and has called for his players to "respect everyone and fear no-one".

He said: "It's a bit of a sideshow and hopefully we don't get too caught up in that. It's a difficult game.

"One of the mantras I've had is respect everyone and fear no-one. We know they're a good team but hopefully we can show everyone we're a good team as well."
