Sylvinho: Albania will attack Spain as they bid to reach Euro 2024 knockout stages

Sylvinho has promised that Albania will be "ambitious" as they seek to book a knockout place at Euro 2024.

The underdogs will have a strong chance of progressing to the last 16 if they can beat Spain on Monday (24.06.24) and the coach has vowed that The Red and Blacks are going to go all out in pursuit of three points.

Sylvinho said: "They're a strong team and we've got a tough game ahead. But we'll give it a go.

"We have brave players who are ambitious and we look forward to playing well against them."

Albania have performed admirably in their opening two fixtures against Italy (losing 2-1) and Croatia (a 2-2 draw) respectively but Sylvinho wants the national team to make history by advancing from the group.

The Brazilian coach said: "There are three million Albanians in Albania and more than nine or 10 million around the world. There was a generation that never saw their team in a European Championship.

"We're all doing a really good job. We're alive, proud and ambitious. Spain are strong, but we're going to go for it in the 90 minutes. We'd be delighted to play in the last 16, but we have to produce our best performance."

Spain have already secured their passage to the knockout stages but coach Luis de la Fuente insists that "prestige" remains at stake for his team in the match.

He said: "Albania have fantastic fans and have already sprung a surprise here.

"We'll approach this game as we have all the others, as if it's the last. Of course, we have a gameplan for the players we feel are apt for this game. We're only focusing on winning because we want to win every game."
