Fin Baxter 'ecstatic' over England call up

Fin Baxter was “ecstatic” to be asked to take part in England’s summer tour.

The Harlequins prop was “gutted” when his domestic side failed to make the top four of the Premiership but his disappointment was somewhat eased when he was asked to join the England seniors for their upcoming games in Japan and New Zealand.

He told Rugby World magazine: “We were gutted about that and yeah, disappointed with our end of the season, but I was ecstatic when I saw that England email.”

Six Harlequins players are in England’s summer squad, and that’s helped ease any of Fin’s nerves over his first time call-up.

He said: “It has been my first time in camp and so obviously was really nervy at the start, but then having familiar faces around has been nice.”

The 22-year-old player feels lucky to have been able to learn from the more experienced Joe Marler.

He said: “I’m really lucky to have him at Quins, It’s so valuable when he picks you up on little details that you might not notice.

“Then watching it back and again, having Adam Jones as our scrum coach, I’m so lucky to have them both.

“It breeds a really good attitude to scrummaging and all the pack at Quins really love it.”
