Peter Horne excited for Scotland newcomers on summer tour

Scotland assistant coach Peter Horne is excited to see how squad newcomers fare on the side's summer tour.

The former centre is looking forward to heading out to Canada, the US, Chile and Uruguay and thinks it will be a great opportunity for a lot of young players to kickstart their international careers.

He told Rugby World magazine: “There will be so many young guys on this your where this will hopefully be the start of a really successful Scotland career.

“You’ve got to get them in and have a look.

“Some guys are made for the Test arena – when they cross the line in a Test jersey they mould into a different beast.

“We’re hoping there will be some guys like that and there will be some young fells who have absolutely earned it as well, by playing really well week in, week out with their clubs.

“You’re just excited to see how they will go in our structure and how they rise to the challenge of being a Test player.”

While Scotland will be regarded as “heavy favourites” for the games, Peter insisted that’s not necessarily a good thing.

He said: “One of the challenges we’re really looking forward to this summer is going in as heavy favourites.

“Sometimes when you’re in that position and things don’t go to plan, you can get a little bit cagey.”
