Andy Murray to play mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu at Wimbledon

Andy Murray will team up with Emma Raducanu to play mixed doubles at Wimbledon.

The British tennis stars will play together for the first time after the pair were granted a wildcard entry for the event that begins later this week.

Murray confirmed on Tuesday (02.07.24) that he would not be playing in the singles due to injury although will be competing in the men's doubles with his older brother Jamie.

The mixed doubles participation will give fans another chance to see Murray at SW19 in what is set to be his final appearance at the event.

Raducanu will be making her Grand Slam doubles debut at the All England Club and admitted that Murray had been an inspiration to her with his fantastic career in tennis.

She said: "I think for me it's just watching him operate day-to-day, watching him be absolutely on it with everything. Even in practice now, he's so on it to the minute.

"I think me, when I was a bit younger maybe, showing up 15 minutes before practice to do a few arm curls, swing my hand around and warm up. He's there for an hour and a half doing treatment. He just sets really good examples."

Murray previously teamed up with American legend Serena Williams in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 2019 and spoke of how playing in a partnership puts less pressure on his body.

The former world number one said: "Doubles is a slightly different game in terms of the physicality of it and I am looking forward to that."
