Andy Robertson pain-free for the first time in five months

Andy Robertson is playing without pain for the first time in five months.

The full-back suffered an ankle ligament injury while playing for Scotland in March and struggled for fitness towards the end of the season and at Euro 2024 but is now fit and ready to go for the campaign ahead after healing up.

Robertson said: "I was playing in pain from March onwards and obviously it was a really important time for the club and then a really important time for my country.

"I hoped that the three weeks off (over the summer) would have settled things down but it didn’t and I needed a wee bit longer.

"So I managed to get my fitness up to a really good level in terms of not being with the team, which was hugely frustrating.

"But I made sure I was in America, in every team meeting going, asking the coaches questions, things like that, and trying to learn even when I could not be on the pitch.

"I knew that would put me in the best possible shape when I was on the pitch.

"I am pain-free for the first time in five months, which is always positive, so long may it continue."

Liverpool started life under new manager Arne Slot with a 2-0 win in their Premier League opened against Ipswich last weekend and Robertson previously urged Reds fans to be "open-minded" as they get used to life without the legendary figure of Jurgen Klopp.

He said: He said: "For the fans, you have to be open-minded.

"The last eight, nine years were pretty special. Maybe they’re going a bit into the unknown but it has to be exciting; the squad’s in a good place, we had a good season last season.

"He (Klopp) has left the club in a really good place so now we have to carry it forward. The manager will come in and he’ll recruit a really good squad, and I’m sure he’ll want to bring in some new faces as well."
