Suzann Petterson finds coaching orle 'exciting'

Suzann Pettersen “almost had more fun” as European Solheim Cup captain than she did in her playing days.

The 43-year-old golfer retired in 2019 but took on the captaincy ahead of the 2023 tournament

And she was pleasantly surprised to find the position just as “exciting” as it was when she was taking part in the competitions herself.

Asked how it compared to playing, she told Today’s Golfer magazine: “It was just exciting.

“I didn’t know whether it would be going into it.

“I wasn’t sure if I would have the sane adrenaline, the same kind of excitement and the anxiousness.

“But I almost had more fun out there on the sidelines.”

Though Suzann is enjoying her current role, she hasn’t ruled out returning to playing via senior events in the future.

She said: “I don’t really judge everything on pure results, but I’ve really enjoyed the journey and doing this captaincy.

“It keeps me in the game and that’s what I love the most.

“I still have a huge passion for golf.

“When the time comes around, maybe I will start playing some senior events. But I call this a journey because it has a start and it has an end.

“Regardless of what happens, I just want everyone to enjoy it, because I get excited just thinking about it.”
