Floyd Mayweather won't be stopping boxing exhibitions

Floyd Mayweather has no intention of quitting boxing.

The American legend ended his professional career in 2017 but has since fought in a string of lucrative exhibition bouts against YouTubers and reality TV stars and has hit back at those who question his desire to remain active in the ring.

Mayweather said in a statement posted on social media: "Retirement isn’t about slowing down, it’s about living on your own terms.

"I’ve worked hard to build a life where I can choose my adventures, and if those adventures still bring in multi-millions, even better!

"Success isn’t something you retire from it’s something you refine.

"Exhibitions are my way of giving my fans, old and new, the opportunity to witness my greatness on any stage I choose."

The legend, who went undefeated in 50 professional outings in the ring, also questioned why he is criticised for "building his legacy" when businessmen like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are praised for doing likewise.

Mayweather said: "It’s okay for Jeff Bezos, who is 60, Bill Gates at 68, and Warren Buffett at 93, to continuously build their legacies and wealth, and they’re celebrated as smart businessmen.

"But when I, a Black man far younger in age, choose to do the same, somehow it becomes a problem for naysayers with nothing to their name.

"Bottom line, there’s too many of you busy pocket watching, while I’m busy still creating wealth and legacy."

Mayweather has made fortunes from his exhibition contests but thinks he is entitled to do so as he is still one of the most talked about competitors in the sport.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper earlier this year: "There is no risk with these exhibitions. I am taking on former MMA guys and YouTubers. They can't get near me. It's not a crime for me to have some fun with them and entertain the crowd.

"I feel like I deserve it. I am still one of the most talked about fighters in the sport of boxing and I'm not even boxing professionally anymore. So, it's only right I am getting the payday to match it. I have plenty of offers I could show you on my phone. $300million, $100million, $50million, $20million, $17million. They are all offers sat on my phone right now. It all depends but if you pay, we play. It's as simple as that."
