Canelo Alvarez thinks he will win 'easy money' fight against Conor McGregor

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez claims he would beat Conor McGregor in an "easy money" fight.

The Mexican boxer has been involved in a war of words with the UFC superstar recently and thinks that he would prevail comfortably if they did get in the ring together.

Asked about taking on McGregor, Canelo told boxing journalist Manouk Akopyan: "Yeah, why not? Then we'll show boxing is better.

"Easy, easy. Very easy money… [I knock him out] at the time I want. One round, two rounds, three rounds - whatever I want."

Canelo takes on Edgar Berlanga in his super-middleweight title defence on Saturday (14.09.24) in Las Vegas with UFC 306 taking place in the city on the same night, although the competition doesn't faze the boxing icon.

He told Million Dollaz Worth of Game: "This is different. Maybe another boxing match, but Canelo is just different.

"I don't care if the UFC is there, when Canelo fights it’s different."

The comments prompted 'The Notorious' to dismiss Canelo as a "cornflake" in a social media post.

McGregor wrote on X: "Canelo is a cornflake. He has about 300k [pay-per-view] buys in him.

"He does not generate nothing near what he seeks to be paid.

"UFC Noche is going to run them from the strip. Sheikh Turki was right moving on. Canelo doesn't sell."

As well as competition from the UFC, Canelo will also have to deal with an opponent who is aiming to become the "king of Puerto Rico" by pulling off a famous win against him.

He said: "I'll be a legend after I beat Canelo. I'll be the king of Puerto Rico forever. Me having my first title shot for three belts versus a guy that was an undisputed Mexican legend. He’s a superstar, so if I beat him, it's over, man. We got to walk through him. I got to break his will."
