Carlos Alcaraz irritated by busy tennis schedule

Carlos Alcaraz is frustrated by the packed tennis calendar.

The Spanish ace helped Team Europe to victory in the Laver Cup last weekend in his 14th tournament of the year and explained that the busy schedule is leaving the sport's top players at risk of injury.

Alcaraz said: "Probably they are going to kill us in some way.

"Right now a lot of good players are going to miss a lot of tournaments because of that [injury]."

The world number three has won two Grand Slam titles and an Olympic silver medal during a gruelling year but confessed that the relentless schedule means that he finds it hard to keep himself motivated at times.

Alcaraz explained: "Sometimes, you don't want to go to a tournament. I'm not going to lie - I have felt this way a few times already.

"Sometimes I don't feel motivated at all. But as I've said many, many times, I play my best tennis when I smile and enjoy it on court. That's the best option to keep motivating (myself)."

Alcaraz shared the major titles this year with Jannik Sinner and hopes that his burgeoning rivalry with the Italian reaches the same level as the battles between Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

The French Open and Wimbledon champion said: "I’m not going to lie, I hope so. I hope that our rivalry is going to be or almost be like the big three had during their whole careers.

"I don’t know. This is the first year that we shared all the Grand Slams. Hopefully it’s going to keep going like that, sharing great moments, fighting for the great tournaments, the Grand Slams, Masters 1000.

"So let’s see how it’s going to be in the future, the next few years, if we are going to stay like that at this level. I think we are going to build or create a relationship off the court as well."
