Ian Wright slams Erling Haaland for 'coward's move' of throwing ball at Gabriel's head

Ian Wright has blasted Erling Haaland for the "coward's move" of throwing the ball at Arsenal defender Gabriel after Manchester City's last-gasp leveller against the Gunners.

The striker chucked the ball at the devastated defender in the aftermath of John Stones' equaliser for City in the 2-2 draw between the teams in the Premier League on Sunday (22.09.24) and Gunners legend Wright was infuriated by his behaviour.

Wright said in a video posted on Instagram: "You know what really boiled me up properly? Haaland’s coward's move.

"I saw it this morning properly, throwing the ball at Gabi’s head when he’s not looking, when his back’s turned to him.

"What a real coward's move. Gabi would look you in the eye.

"I’m looking at this as a really good defender versus striker for years to come, I love watching them two, and then you’re doing a coward's move like that.

"Nah man, that’s what bothers me more than everything else, I thought you were bigger than that bro, I thought you were bigger than that."

The incident came at the climax of a stormy game between the two top sides as City defender Kyle Walker accused Arsenal of resorting to the "dark arts" of football to protect their 2-1 lead with ten men during the second half.

The full-back told BBC Radio 5 Live: "As a football match, it is a great spectacle for the Premier League. Probably not so much certain stuff - I think it’s part and parcel of the game and we'll say the dark arts.

"I think as a Manchester City fan or player, you are obviously frustrated. As an Arsenal manager, he is going to say well played and well managed."
