Frank Warren hits out at the underestimation of Daniel Dubois

Frank Warren felt that Daniel Dubois was badly underestimated before he fought Anthony Joshua.

The British fighter retained his IBF world title after demolishing his compatriot with a fifth-round knockout at Wembley Stadium last weekend and his promoter thinks that the pre-fight perceptions that he was the underdog were proved emphatically wrong.

Warren told TNT Sports: "I never read anywhere that anybody said or heard anywhere that he was going to win the fight. He outboxed him because that's what it was. I always said, ‘The one who puts the other guy on the back foot is going to win this fight.’

"It was phenomenal and again, being the know-all I am, I said they may boo him going into the ring as the challenger in their minds, even though he's a champion. But I promise you they will cheer him when he leaves."

Warren thinks that his charge is not given the credit he deserves for stepping into the ring against top fighters such as Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk.

The Queensberry supremo said: "He's had some bad things said about him by people in sport, which I found quite disgusting.

"I found it quite a burden for him to prove where he was at. But he's been the most active heavyweight at that level. I'm talking about at the top level this year and probably for a long, long time."

Warren plans to get Dubois back in the ring next February and is open to the prospect of a second fight against Joshua.

Asked about a rematch against the former world champion, the promoter said: "I'm not against that at all. That's not an open door for me, I'll take the door off the hinges and we'll do it.

"That fight is there. If they want it, they've got it, have it in a heartbeat. His next fight will be in February. That's when he'll fight next, and we will work out who that’s going to be in the next week or two weeks."
