Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would consider return as Man Utd manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would jump at the chance to return as Manchester United manager.

The Norwegian coach has not worked since being dismissed by the Red Devils in 2021 but refused to rule out a return to the Old Trafford dugout with current boss Erik ten Hag under increasing scrutiny.

Speaking at the Oslo Business Forum, Solskjaer said: "If the family [United] asks, I would say yes every day of the week. It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have now, but I would say yes, of course."

Solskjaer - who represented United for 11 years during his playing career - explained that he would also consider coaching Norway's national team if a Red Devils return does not materialise.

He said: "I am a proud Norwegian, and of course if the question arises, when Stale (Solbakken) decides to give up, I will happily engage in discussions. I am a proud Norwegian and proud of where I come from."

Solskjaer said earlier this year that there is "no magic wand" to fix the issues at United despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe's minority purchase bringing a renewed sense of optimism to the club.

He told the 'Stick to Football' podcast: "I don’t think there’s a magic wand (at United) as in, ‘We’ve changed the owners'.

"Obviously, they’ve got their ways of working – the Glazers have still got their commercial – who knows how it’s going to be in football with that side of it."

Meanwhile, Solskjaer also revealed that some of his players didn't want to wear the captain's armband for specific games.

He recalled: "No one said ‘no’ to being the club captain, it was just for certain games.

"Yes, but they didn’t want to say it themselves, they had other people come up to me and say it. It was disappointing. It’s a different generation, its Gen Z. It’s petty and shows a lack of ambition."
