Erik ten Hag remains 'calm' despite Man Utd sack speculation

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United are "calm" despite the mounting scrutiny on his position as manager.

The Dutch coach has been plunged back into crisis by the disappointing 3-0 loss to Tottenham last weekend but has defiantly claimed that he isn't feeling the pressure as it has been frequent during his tenure as coach.

Ten Hag told TNT Sports: "We are used to it. At Carrington, no one looks up.

"When we are losing, there is always drama at United, there is crisis around us, but we will stay calm.

"Everyone is calm at the club, we know where we are, on which pathway. We have a long-term project working together.

"There is a new leadership team. Also, I appointed the staff and we want to work long-term together. We came together but of course we have to improve our method of work."

United face an important game in the Europa League against Porto on Thursday (03.10.24) and Ten Hag says that the onus will be on his team to win in Portugal.

The manager said: "This is a great atmosphere where we play against a very good team.

"That always motivates. They have very good individual players but are also a very good team with a clear identity, so we’re looking forward to facing them.

"Every game we have to win. At United, the demand is winning. That will not change."

The United boss also scoffed at claims made by his former assistant Benni McCarthy that he lacks "passion" on the touchline.

Ten Hag said: "I don’t know what he means.

"In the last six years I’ve won eight trophies. I don’t think you can do that without passion and fire.

"I always motivate my team. When you win trophies, you can’t do this without passion and desire."
