The Blues ace hit the winner as his team beat Newcastle 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday (27.10.24) and admits that it is special to be mentioned in the same breath as the Italian great who has an icon card on the video game 'EA FC 25'.
Palmer told Sky Sports: "I know he is an icon on Fifa so he must have been good.
"To be honest, I didn’t really watch him play. Everyone says he was a great player, so thank you."
Chelsea have endured a turbulent couple of years but Palmer thinks that the club's faith in younger players is beginning to bear fruit after an impressive start to the campaign under new manager Enzo Maresca.
The England international said: "We just try to play our own game, block the noise out from the outside.
"We don't mind proving people wrong. We are all young and we have a top coach, but there are improvements still."
Palmer has been a revelation since joining the Blues from Manchester City last year but he isn't putting too much pressure on himself to consistently perform.
He said: "I try and go out there and play my game. That is what I do.
"I wouldn’t go that far [saying he is unstoppable]. I always try to enjoy my football game by game.
"I try to not put pressure on myself. Many people on the outside try to put pressure on me to replicate what I did last season in terms of numbers.
"It is my second season playing football and I am still very, very young."
