The 30-year-old No. 8 left his native Australia for Scotland three years ago and admitted his side’s dramatic league triumph in the 2023/24 season made him feel the move was justified.
He told Rugby World magazine: “When I first moved over to Scotland, [my ambition was] to justify the move, to do it all.
“At the time I couldn’t play for Scotland, so this wasn’t a career pivot to stay in the Test arena. It was more to validate my own ability in a fresh environment.
“And obviously since then, I’ve qualified for Scotland, did all that and have made the team.
“But to actually get some silverware in there, which you can’t take off a resume, that’s the validation I was looking for.”
This summer saw Jack return Down Under for a lengthy break and he was delighted to spend so much time with family and friends.
He said: “My first time back was after the World cup but I only really got nine days and it’s hard to fit three years of time away into just over a week.
"This time I managed to get to a couple of weddings and stuff, which is the biggest stuff you miss when you move away from home at my age – those are the milestones you miss.
“And then each time you get back, the folks are a bit older, the grandparents are still hanging on…
“Going back to Australia and seeing all the folks still following [my career] along really cemented my decision for me.”
