The 29-year-old golfer was partnered with Scottie Scheffler on the final day at Royal Troon earlier this year, but insisted he wasn’t starstruck about playing with the world number one in his Major debut, as there are very few people he’d be overwhelmed by.
He told Golf Monthly magazine: “I probably didn’t react how people think I would have reacted.
“I probably would have just been quite casual and cool about it, whoever I was playing with really.
“Obviously, looking back now, it was pretty cool to play with Scottie Scheffler but I don’t really get starstruck. I’m not really too bothered by the other guys.
“I think it’s just my personality. I’m quite laid back.
“There’s probably only one player on the planet who, if I got drawn with him, I would be overly excited and that would be Tiger Woods.
“Him and David Beckham were my two idols growing up. They’re the two guys who I grew up just absolutely in awe of.”
Dan praised Scottie for his down-to-earth attitude.
He said: “Scottie’s probably the most normal World Number 1 there’s ever been in terms of being so approachable.
“We were walking down the 2nd hole and I just went over to him and started chatting.
“We had some really good chats and he was really good with [my brother and caddie] Ben as well, which was nice to see.
"He was calling him ‘Junior’ all the way round, which is what all the guys on tour call him.
“His caddie, Ted Scott, is very much the same. IT’s easy to see how they’ve done so well.
“They’re obviously both great at what they do, but they also get on really well too.”
