The 20-year-old hooker originally played football, turning out as a goalkeeper for Ipswich’s academy from the age of eight to 12, but made the switch as a teenager and relished the sport’s “intense moments”.
Asked what attracted him to rugby, he told Rugby World magazine: “The physical aspect. The contact and intense moments drew me to it.
“I was one of the smaller lads and a lot of lads couldn’t get as low, so I perfected my chop tackle.”
Craig is proud of the physical side of his game.
Asked how he’d describe his playing style, he said: “A set-piece hooker, I pride myself on throwing and scrummaging.
“Quite physical, relentless and working hard.”
As an England U20 world champion, the Northampton Saints player is hoping to take his international career further in the future.
Discussing his future goals, he said: “To play regularly for England and then through to the Lions. Aim high!”
And Craig also wants to do more coaching alongside his own playing.
He said: “I’ve done my level two coaching. I coached at Bishop’s Stortford but I’m looking for somewhere to coach, so get in touch.”
