The 28-year-old boxer will defend his IBF light-welterweight title against the New Yorker this weekend and despite his opponent’s tough talking before the bout, Liam isn’t convinced by his confident front.
He told Boxing News magazine: “He doesn’t even believe what he says, it’s just a big front.
“He’s an insecure guy, he’s just nervous and everyone knows that.
“Everyone knows he’s a talker and word on the street is he’s a quitter too.
“He’s weak in the head and I’m not the fighter you want to be in the ring with if you’re not there mentally.
“But hey, we’re going to test that, like I said to him at the face-off.
“I want him 110 per cent. I don’t want no excuses.
“We know what we bring to the ring and it’s going to be a long, hjard night for him at the office.”
Liam had been hoping to face a “bigger” opponent than the IBF’s mandatory challenger.
He said: “I’m not going to lie, we were looking for the bigger names like [Devin] Haney, [Teofimo] Lopez and [Ryan] Garcia.
“But obviously everything’s happened for a reason and no-one was biting.
“We wanted to stay busy, I want to be a busy champion. I’m a real fighter.
“What better way to close the year, than with another good, hard undefeated opponent?
“It shows that we’ll fight anyone and we’re taking out the best guys.”
