Cristian Romero says Tottenham stars back manager Ange Postecoglou

Cristian Romero insists that Tottenham players are happy with Ange Postecoglou's management.

Spurs' struggles continued as they lost 4-3 at home to London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday (08.12.24) but the Argentine defender claims that the squad are fully supportive of the coach.

Romero told Telemundo: "He's a great coach. We saw it in the first season. In this second one we've suffered a lot of injuries.

"Players are the first one to be criticised, then if we lose 10 games, the staff can be changed, but nobody talks about what is actually happening.

"We are very happy with this staff, me and my colleagues. We love how they work and the football they try to play. We'll try to move on quickly."

Spurs conceded two penalties as they threw away a 2-0 lead and Postecoglou rued "big moments" going against his team during the game.

The Australian coach said: "It was a game of big moments. If we score at 2-2 and go 3-2 ahead then the pressure is on them and they have to open up like we did when we conceded.

"Their penalties were poor from our behalf. We didn't need to make those challenges and it was hard for us to claw it back.

"I think sometimes when you are in this position we are, you are desperate to do the right thing.

"You probably need a calmer approach. The guys are desperate to do the right thing and unfortunately it cost us."

Spurs have struggled for consistency this season and are now in the bottom half of the table but Postecoglou thinks his charges are "desperate" to transform the situation.

He said: "When I look at the performance, I don’t see them lacking confidence or belief. It’s probably the other way. Both penalties we conceded were borne out of desperation.

"I think they are desperate to turn our season around and are really disappointed how it has gone. When you’re in that mood you kind of lose that composure and discipline you need."
