Rasmus Hojlund believes Man Utd need more time to learn under Ruben Amorim

Rasmus Hojlund thinks Manchester United need more time on the training ground to adapt to Ruben Amorim's methods.

The Danish forward scored twice as the Red Devils earned an important win against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday (12.12.24) but has bemoaned the lack of time the players have had to acclimatise to the demands of their new manager.

Hojlund told TNT Sports: "We still need more time. It’s still very early days.

"It’s about getting the routines together and I think it’s getting under the skin now, but obviously it still needs a lot of practice and a lot of time.

"We don’t have a lot of sessions so we have to train it during the matches. I know it sounds a bit odd, but it’s how you learn the best."

Amorim knows there is lots of room for improvement but was pleased to register a victory that boosts United's chances of automatic qualification for the last 16 of the competition - which means they won't have two extra fixtures in their schedule for February.

The coach said: "We are improving in some details. We control really well the transitions and we are aggressive when we lose the ball.

"We need time to work on the possession, this team needs to spend a lot of time near the opponent’s goal and not just in transition. So we are trying to work on that but it’s good to win, to prepare the next game. It’s really important for us."

Amorim continued: "We know that we need to win one game and they fought until the end. That was important. I think we deserved the win.

"We didn’t play very well but we fought and we managed not to give up. That was a key point for me and we are in a good place in the table. It’s really important we take those two [potential play-off] games from our schedule, to find time to work."
