Tyson Fury regrets not delaying original Oleksandr Usyk fight

Tyson Fury thinks he should have delayed his original fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

The Gypsy King had been due to take on the Ukrainian in February before pushing the bout back to May after he suffered a cut to his eye in training and he wishes he would have taken a £10 million fine by delaying the contest further to give him more time to prepare.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's (21.12.24) heavyweight rematch between the pair, Fury told Sky Sports: "This time it's been a lot easier.

"I've done lots of sparring and I've been able to train properly, whereas before it's no secret that I didn't do a lot of sparring, hence I had a massive bounty on my cut eye.

"Thinking sensible, maybe I would have pushed it back a little bit and cost myself £10m, but it doesn't really matter because we're here now and I'm going to do the job on Saturday night."

Fury tasted defeat for the first time in his career in the original fight but insists that he has not spent time dwelling on the clash.

The former world champion said: "I haven't processed it at all. I've not done any processing.

"All I've done is enjoyed my life and lived, and then went into another training camp. And I'll continue to do the same thing after this fight."

Fury is confident that he will put in an improved performance in the rematch but is aware that his rival is just as capable of doing the same.

He said: "I'm not sure, you know. You can never talk for other people.

"Usyk will do what he's got to do, and I'll see him on Saturday night for a big boy fight."
