Kevin de Bruyne: Man City are getting back on track

Kevin de Bruyne believes that Manchester City are heading in the right direction once again.

The Premier League champions beat West Ham 4-1 on Saturday (04.01.25) to register back-to-back wins following a horrendous run of just one win in 13 matches and the Belgian midfielder hopes that City can start afresh in 2025.

De Bruyne said: "I think it was better than the game at Leicester (last weekend). I think we had some good moments, some moments a bit less and I think, in the end, we lost a bit of rhythm, energy.

"But to win the first game of ’25 is good. I think it feels some players are getting back physically and hopefully it gets better.

"Obviously, it’s been a difficult season for many, many reasons, but I think we’re getting a bit better."

De Bruyne has been affected by injury problems while City have faltered this season but explained that he is feeling "better" after a two-month autumn absence.

He said: "I can look at myself to be physically better and I’m starting to feel a bit better. That’s the only thing I can do."

Despite City's win, manager Pep Guardiola has dismissed suggestions that the "old" version of his team have returned.

The Spanish coach said: "You judge the results. Our performance was not good. We saw in many years our level. We are not at our level.

"Don't misunderstand me. I'm so happy. I will sleep better until the FA Cup [tie against Salford on 11 January].

"But he asked if the old Manchester City and the way we play is back? No. You have to know it. You watched the games for years. We're not at the level, come on."
