Pep Guardiola admits Man City could be knocked out of Champions League

Pep Guardiola accepts that Manchester City could make an early exit from the Champions League.

City threw away a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 to PSG on Wednesday (22.01.25) and the coach says his side could have no complaints about a result that leaves them needing victory in their final league phase game to reach the knockout stages.

Guardiola told TNT Sports: "They were better. They were quicker, faster. They won the duels with the ball.

"They had one moment in the middle and we could not cope with that. They are fast. I accept the defeat, because the best team won."

City must beat Club Brugge next week to avoid an embarrassing exit and Guardiola warned that the nightmare scenario could become a reality for his faltering team.

The Spanish manager said: "It could happen. If we don't win, we don't deserve it.

"We didn't do enough points and we have to accept it. The last game against Brugge will dictate what we have to do."

Guardiola lamented how his team was unable to keep control of the match despite racing into a two-goal advantage in the early minutes of the second half.

He said: "First half, they had the moments.

"They had one or two, we had one or two in terms of chances, but they were better.

"Attitude was fine. We scored all in five minutes, they scored all in five minutes.

"To play, you have to play. We could not. To defend the result, you have to keep the ball. We did not have it.

"They had it more, they attacked better and that's why it's more difficult."
