Scottie Scheffler doesn't think 'stupid' Christmas injury will harm his golf

Scottie Scheffler doesn't think the hand injury he sustained at Christmas will hinder his golf.

The world number one required surgery after cutting the palm of his right hand on a broken wine glass but doesn't think it will disrupt his momentum after an excellent 2024 that saw him win the Masters and Olympic Gold in Paris.

Asked if he was concerned about the operation harming his game, Scheffler - who will play competitively for the first time this season at this week's AT+T Pebble Beach Pro-Am - said: "Not at all.

"It's one of those deals where immediately after it happened I was mad at myself because I was like, 'Gosh, that's so stupid', but you just don't think about it when you're in the moment.

"It really wasn't terrible, but I knew I kind of messed something up just because the way my hand wasn't really moving much and if I did move it, it hurt pretty badly. So I kind of knew something was up."

Scheffler missed the first two events of the year as a result of the injury and found it "frustrating" to be watching on television rather than being out on the course.

The two-time Masters winner said: "It was frustrating to be sitting at home, not being able to play golf, but (my wife, my son and I) got some good time at home just us three.

"It's pretty rare for me to be at home throughout the day without really having much to do. I couldn't really work out at first, there wasn't a whole lot I could do, so it was nice uninterrupted time for us at home.

"But it was definitely still frustrating watching golf on TV and not being able to play."

Despite missing the events, the American has no plans to add any extra tournaments to his schedule to compensate.

He said: "Missing those two events is not fun; I enjoy playing them.

"Just because I missed two I don't want to change the flow and cadence to my schedule. If I feel like I want to add one to get some extra reps in, I will."
