Sergio Aguero making big career shift as he swaps football for Formula E

Sergio Aguero is swapping the football world for Formula E.

The 36-year-old former Argentinian striker is set to get behind the wheel of the GEN3 Evo - the world's fastest electric car - for the ‘Formula E Evo Sessions’.

On March 5 and March 6, Sergio will be joined by the likes of Brooklyn Beckham, and they will bomb around the Miami International Autodrome track in the thrilling car that can launch from 0 to 60mph in 1.82 seconds - making it faster than a current F1 car.

However, before they experience the rush of adrenaline that is sure to be going through them, they will be paired and embedded within Formula E’s elite race teams and drivers over the next six weeks as part of their preparation work and intense training programme.

That includes simulator sessions, physical conditioning, driver coaching, hardware customisation and engineering briefings. They will experience first-hand just how tough and complicated it is to prepare, train and drive like a world-class racing driver.

The 25-year-old motor racing fanatic - who is the son of former football sensation, and the current president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF - said: "I’ve loved motorsport all my life, so when the opportunity came to be a part of 'Evo Sessions' with Formula E, I jumped at the chance.

"I love it as a sport, but it’s an incredible opportunity to actually get behind the wheel and experience what it takes to compete at the top level of motorsport.

"The performance of the cars is insane, so I’m pleased I’ll be learning from the best in how to get the most out of them."

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E said: "The initial reaction when I presented the concept of ‘Evo Sessions’ to our teams and partners was, ‘This is wild!’ - which is when I immediately knew we had to bring it to life. We wanted to do something that has never been done before in motorsport; something that would give audiences and our fan base a unique perspective into the world of a Formula E driver, through the eyes of some of their favourite online personalities."

The entire journey from rookie to racer will be captured for social-first content, through the creators’ lens, and shared across their and Formula E's social media channels.
