The Bayern Munich and England striker has been a keen player since he was a teenager so was delighted to get the chance to hit the green with the golfing legend while on holiday in 2017, but he admitted he’s never as comfortable with clubs than he is with a football.
Asked if playing with Tiger was more nerve-racking than playing a crucial football game, he told Today’s Golfer magazine: “Yes, because you are so far outside your comfort zone.
“I actually love that feeling of going into games.
“But put me in a pro-am with a few thousand watching and I will be nervous.”
Harry didn’t want to “seem too keen” when he got the chance to play with Tiger and was just relieved when he managed to hit the ball.
He recalled: “I was out in the Bahamas in 2017 and a golf pro I know said, ‘Oh by the way, I’m playing with Tiger in the afternoon. Want to play?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, give me a shout.’ I didn’t want to seem too keen!
“Anyway, I went for lunch, couldn’t get any signal, and then when I was walking back home, I got four texts come through at once from an hour earlier.
“I texted back and Tiger said to come and meet him on 14. We walked onto the 15th and I teed my ball up feeling nervous but excited.
“I was thinking, just hit this ball in the air.
“Anyway, I hit a good drive onto the fairway so at least Tiger knew I could hit the ball, and I birdied the hole, a short par five.
“I should have just shook his hand there and then!
“Anyway, we had lunch, got on really well and I played another 18 with him the next morning.”
