Cristiano Ronaldo has been 'devalued' by his 1,000 goals target

Cristiano Ronaldo thinks he has been "devalued" since setting himself the target of 1,000 career goals.

The Portuguese legend declared his ambition to reach four figures last year but is frustrated about how the target has dominated the public conversation surrounding his time with Saudi club Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo – who has netted more than 900 times during his illustrious career - told Spanish TV channel La Sexta: "People are a bit heavy with the 1,000 goals. I know I'm guilty too. But it seems that they are devaluing what I'm doing.

"For example, this year, I'm scoring goals, a lot of them and nice ones. I'm doing well and people don't value my moment, my goals. They're like: 'I'm missing 85'. I don't like that. Things have to happen naturally. Because even if score 920, 925 or 930 goals, the best in history is me. Period."

The 40-year-old footballer is adamant that he is not obsessed with the goalscoring milestone and is staying focused on the present.

Ronaldo said: "I score goals, the numbers say so. If the 1,000 goals happen, it would be terrible.

"I don't know (if it will happen) but I tell you sincerely. I don't project myself, I think about the present moment. I don't know what will happen tomorrow."

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner claimed last year that he was no longer interested in pursuing individual accolades and the success of Al-Nassr is all that matters to him at this stage of his career.

Ronaldo said: "It is not important anymore whether I am the best or not, I no longer care about that.

"It is good for a player to score goals, but for me it is better for the team to win.

"I am used to breaking records and I no longer look for them. The most important thing for me now is to enjoy and help Al-Nassr and my team-mates to win."
