The Chiefs failed in their bid to become the first franchise to win three straight NFL championships as they lost 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday (09.02.25) and the tight end acknowledged that his team had been outclassed in all aspects of the game.
A downcast Kelce told reporters: "[We] couldn’t get it going offensively.
"I mean they just got after us on all three phases and then on top of that, you know, turnovers, penalties, playing behind the sticks on offense."
Kelce felt that the Chiefs dropped passes and were unable to perform at the levels that they did during the regular season.
He said: "We haven’t played that bad all year. You don’t lose like that without everything going bad."
The sports star - whose pop star girlfriend Taylor Swift attended the game in New Orleans - added that the Chiefs never gave up despite being second-best during the game.
Kelce said: "This team is gonna fight til the end forever and you saw that. Even with the score late, we were always gonna fight."
The footballer added: "We just couldn’t find that spark. We couldn’t find that momentum."
Kelce's future in the sport has been called into question following the loss and team-mate Patrick Mahomes hopes the player returns to the Chiefs for a 12th full season.
The quarterback said: "I know he still has love for the game. He'll get time to spend with his family and make that decision on his own. He'll be welcomed back here with open arms."
