Heather Payne loves 'homely' Liverpool

Heather Payne loves living in “homely” Liverpool.

The Republic of Ireland forward moved to Merseyside to play for Everton in 2023 and she enjoys her life in the city.

She told Match magazine: “I love the city. I had been to Liverpool a couple of summers before I signed for Everton, but I love the city as it has a really homely feel.

“I think there are a lot of Irish people in Liverpool, which is nice.

“I live by the water which is nice too.”

But Heather admitted the transition to the English game after playing in the US was a big “step up”.

She said: “I had been playing in college in America so coming across to England was a big step up, but I was quite happy with how I adjusted to the physicality and the demands of it.

“The first half of last season I hit the ground running and was able to break into the team, but in the second half I picked up some injuries.

“Since I have one season under my belt I hope I can step it up a bit.”

And the sportswoman is on the hunt for a “good” sushi restaurant in her new home city.

She said: “There are lots of great restaurants in Liverpool but I’ve always been a fan of sushi.

“Coming over from America, they had great sushi there.

“I haven’t quite topped it since coming to England but hopefully I’ll find a good restaurant soon.”
