Rory McIlroy wants to bag 30th PGA Tour win this year

Rory McIlroy hopes to “break the 30 barrier” this year.

The golfer claimed his first PGA tour event of the year earlier this month, equalling Phil Mickelson’s record of 27 PGA Tour wins, but he’s aiming to smash the record over the course of the coming months.

He told Golf Monthly magazine: “Getting to that number is really cool.

“I think for me its even more meaningful that I don’t really play a full schedule on the PGA Tour either. I spend my time between here and the DP World Tour.

“I think I’m up over 40 or at 40 worldwide wins, which is a pretty cool number.

“But 27 on the PGA tour is great.

“Hopefully I keep adding to that and break the 30 barrier at some point this year.”

The Irishman is delighted with his game so far this year.

He said: “It was a great week for a lot of different reasons – hole-in-one, playing Cypress Point for the first time and obviously getting a win.

“I couldn’t have wished for a better start to my PGA Tour season.

“I’ve been on a nice run of form since last autumn. I’ve played some really good golf and continued that into 2025. It’s just a great way to start the year.”
