The IBF world champion was forced to withdraw from his clash with the New Zealand boxer last weekend due to illness and his father Stanley has revealed his devastation at the late cancellation as he provided an update on his son's recovery.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Dubois Sr said: "He's on the mend, his glands are still very swollen.
"And as a result, he has a fever and is very tired, so he is just going through that at the moment.
"It was the doctors that made the decision for him not to fight. Even though he felt well and wanted to do the fight.
"The doctors said he would do three rounds and get tired. Daniel wanted to fight, he was really upset.
"The journey home was a bit sad, I felt sad for the team. It's not a good feeling, it is out of your control really."
Stanley confirmed that his son will be back training once he recovers from his illness but said that his next fight is in the hands of promoter Frank Warren.
He said of the world champion's possible return: "That is down to Frank Warren really.
"We will have a sit down with him and see where we will go from there really.
"He will be back in the gym as soon as he has had a good rest. He needs a rest, he's come out of a hard camp."
Warren suggested earlier this week that Dubois was still on course for a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk despite not getting to take on Parker.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "You have to look at the next move and I think that will be either Usyk in an all-belt affair for the four belts or maybe AJ [Anthony Joshua]. We will have to work that out in the next week or so.
"We will talk through the options as a team and make a decision. Everyone's view is important but the most important view is Daniel's because he is the one getting into the ring and he makes the ultimate decision."
