Daniel Dubois’ camp eyeing Oleksandr Usyk rematch, trainer says

Daniel Dubois’ trainer Don Charles has revealed the boxer’s camp are hoping for a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

The 27-year-old fighter faced Usyk, 38, in August 2023 where he was knocked out in the ninth round, though Dubois’ trainer has now said his camp are trying to get the ball rolling on a rematch.

Charles told TalkSPORT: “Yeah, he dropped Usyk legitimately but they deemed it to be a low blow. It would be great if they are able to engineer the fight and make it happen.

“And Usyk to his credit, he has come out recently and said he wants to fight Daniel Dubois. That is what we will probably lean towards. It is a no-brainer. It makes sense. There is history there.

“So we would be relishing the opportunity to have a second go at Usyk.”

Dubois was set to defend his IBF heavyweight world title against Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia last weekend (02.22.25), though the former boxer was forced to pull out on doctors’ advice after he fell ill.

While many have been calling for an immediate rescheduling of the fight, Charles has insisted Dubois isn’t obliged to face Parker next, as he holds the IBF heavyweight world title and the bout isn’t “mandatory”.

The trainer explained: “My answer is, I will tell the fans, it was a voluntary defence not a mandatory one.

“Daniel doesn't have to give Daniel that fight. But promoter Frank Warren knows best. He will present a few options on the table, and then we will choose our next fight.

“In the same way that we chose Joseph Parker, we weren't forced to take that fight.”
