Conor Benn to reapply for British boxing license ahead of Chris Eubank Jr. fight

Conor Benn will be reapplying for a British boxing license for his bout against Chris Eubank Jr.

The 28-year-old fighter was initially set to face Eubank Jr., 35, in 2022, though the match was called off after Benn failed two drug tests.

Since then, ‘The Destroyer’ has competed overseas and had his provisional suspension lifted in July 2023 after a long-running dispute with the British Boxing Board of Control, though Benn has now revealed he is hoping to battle Eubank Jr. with a British licence.

He told Sky Sports: “I will be reapplying. I will be reapplying for my British boxing licence.

“You could say full vindication will be once I apply for my British boxing licence.”

Thursday’s (02.27.25) press conference saw heightened security precautions put in place after Eubank Jr. slapped Benn across the face with an egg during a previous media event in Manchester.

Benn insisted he would “do some damage” to his opponent if he got a hold of him, and emphasised their match - which is slated to take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26, 2025 - couldn’t come sooner.

He said: “If I get my hands on him I'll do some damage for sure. I don't know if there will be, hopefully there isn't. April 26 may come sooner.”

The pair did get their face-off at Thursday’s (27.02.25) press conference despite calls to cancel it, though Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn stressed the face-off was only allowed to go ahead after extra security were brought on and the pair were kept away from one another to avoid another potential clash.

The promoter explained: “We said we wouldn't do a head to head at the presser but we'd do one on the pitch and keep security between them.

“I think if Conor was in distance, we'd have a problem.”
