Sonia Bompastor thrilled as Chelsea pull off Champions League comeback

Sonia Bompastor enjoyed Chelsea's "perfect night" as they roared back against Manchester City to reach the Women's Champions League semi-finals.

The Blues overpowered their Women's Super League rivals 3-0 on Thursday (27.03.25) to overturn their first-leg deficit and triumph 3-2 on aggregate and the coach was delighted by how her side fought back.

Bompastor told reporters: "I think sometimes in football you work really hard, you sometimes get good results, sometimes not. But I think tonight was a perfect night for us being able again to play at Stamford Bridge with our fans and being able to turn things around again.

"I'm really proud of my players. It was a difficult challenge, but we believed it was possible and I think this belief was something really strong on our side and maybe made the difference."

Chelsea now face a semi-final against Barcelona and Bompastor is hopeful that the team can overcome opponents who have got the better of them in Europe over the past few years.

The French manager said: "Barcelona has a lot of experience, a lot of talent in the squad. I was watching their game before our game against Wolfsburg. And yeah, it'll be a tough challenge. But in football again, everything is possible.

"So, I will bring all the confidence we need to go into those two games. But first of all, we want to enjoy, because it was not easy. We had a really great performance today. So I want to enjoy and have some time to reflect on the games in April against Barcelona."

Chelsea captain Millie Bright is also confident about the team's chances against Barca despite past pain against the Catalans.

The England international said: "We are a new team, we are on a new journey, we are in a new era. Bring it on."
