Mikaela Mayer vows to defeat Sandy Ryan 'better'

Mikaela Mayer plans to defeat Sandy Ryan “better” this time round.

The WBO welterweight champion is set to face her rival in a rematch this weekend and while she knows her opponent will be out to prove herself following her defeat in September, Mikaela plans to outdo her thanks to the work she’s been putting in with new trainer Kofi Jantuah.

She told Boxing News magazine: “I’ve given her another chance but I really don’t think she will come in much different than last time.

"Sandy has got the same team and will just be doing the same s***.

“But if she wants the chance to prove that she can be better and stronger, guess what – I will be better and stronger also.

“I have the experience. I know how to adjust.

“My trainer has me punching harder and sitting on my shots even more.

“This time, I am going to make the scorecards even wider…

“I can win even easier this time. l I will do what I did last time, but better.

“I am the one who will improve the most.”

The boxer is “shocked” by how much she has improved under Kofi and regrets not working with him earlier in her career.

She said: “I am shocked at how much I have improved since I started to work with Kofi.

“I wish I had found Kofi five years ago. It’s really blowing my mind.

“All my shots are coming off so much cleaner, everything is so much easier now.”
