The Hall of Fame trainer is “proud” to be coaching the Irishman and his brother Stephen McKenna alongside their dad Fergal, and he’ll be jetting into London next month to see Aaron in action against Liam Smith on the Chris Eubank Jr.-Conor Benn undercard.
He told Boxing News magazine: “My wife and I are definitely coming to London.
“I want to come and be involved. I’m pretty sure I will be in the corner on the night, but I’m not putting demand son anyone. It’s up to Fergal.
“Aaron can be a world champion. He can fight on the inside, the outside, he rolls with punches and isn’t intimidated. I’m really proud to be part of the team.”
The 82-year-old coach praised the brothers as “good, tough boys”.
He added: “Fergal is a good coach and he trusts me.
“He lets me talk to the boys. I’m his backup, but I’m a verbal kind of guy.
“Fergal lets me shout at them and they look at me and do things I suggest in sparring. I’m happy as hell to be involved with both the boys…
“I like the boys’ intelligence, height, the way they use their minds. I love working with them. I’m 82 but still have my mind.”
However, Jesse thinks Stephen needs to join Aaron in the 160lb weight division.
He said: “Aaron is at the weight he belongs but Stephen is a super-welterweight amd should be fighting at middleweight.
“Fighting at super-welterweight hurt him. Stephen is strong and growing and has great ability.”
