Ruben Amorim won't let Bruno Fernandes leave Man Utd this summer

Ruben Amorim has told Bruno Fernandes that he will not be allowed to leave Manchester United this summer.

The United captain has been a shining light during a troubled season for the club and the coach has outlined that the playmaker will be staying at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

Asked about speculation linking Fernandes with the exit door, Amorim said: "No, it's not going to happen.

"He's not going anywhere because I've already told him."

Fernandes - whose contract at United runs until 2027 - has faced criticism from TV pundits for his histrionics on the pitch but Amorim is determined to keep the midfielder around as he plots a route back to the top for the Red Devils.

The manager said: "I want Bruno here because maybe in the lowest moments of our season he…

"We want to win the Premier League again so we want the best players to continue with us. He's 30 but he's still so young because he plays 55 games every season and between assists and goals he's there for 30 at least."

Amorim added: "We are in control of the situation. But I feel he is really happy here because he understands what we want to do.

"He is also a supporter of Manchester United so he really feels it.

"Sometimes the frustration you see, that everybody sees and maybe says is not a good thing in a captain is a sign he wants this so bad. This is the kind of player we want."

United haven't played for over two weeks due to the international break and Amorim has used the downtime to assess both the present and future of the club.

The coach told TNT Sports ahead of Tuesday's (01.04.25) Premier League clash at Nottingham Forest: "It was really important. It helped that we were winning games, and we went to the next stage of the Europa League so it was perfect to stop a little bit, but I’m always thinking about not just the present but the future.

"You have more time to think about the big picture and not just focus on the next game. You can watch a lot of games from different angles and try to understand the players.

"We have to prepare for next season, so you’re also watching different players and others on loan to see how they’re doing, and also watching some games from the youth teams."
