Chris Eubank Jr. blasts 'steep' fine for slapping Conor Benn with an egg

Chris Eubank Jr. has hit out at the "steep" £100,000 fine he received for slapping Conor Benn with an egg.

The two fighters will meet in a much-anticipated fight later this month and Eubank Jr. says that he and his team intend to appeal the punishment for his antics during the first press conference for the bout.

During the event, Eubank Jr. cracked an egg into the side of Benn's head - sparking chaotic scenes as his rival erupted with anger.

He was later punished with the hefty fine by the British Boxing Board of Control.

The fighter told Sky Sports: "We are dealing with the situation. £100,000 for throwing an egg seems a little bit strong.

"Especially looking at what others have been fined for what would seem to be much more serious incidents over the years. I don't think anyone's got anywhere close to a £100,000 fine. Tables being thrown, people getting punched in the face, slapped in the face.

"100k for an egg, it's steep. We will deal with the situation."

There is plenty of animosity heading into the fight as the pair - the sons of 1990s rivals Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn - were due to box in 2022 before the latter failed a doping test and Eubank Jr. thinks that he will get the better of his "emotional" nemesis on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The pugilist said: "He's an aggressive guy. He's an emotional guy. He doesn't know how to be calm. How to be collected. How to think before he speaks.

"He's his father's son. They're hotheads."

Promoter Eddie Hearn suggested earlier this year that Eubank Jr. v Benn was the biggest fight in British boxing following Tyson Fury's retirement from the ring.

He said: "It’s a stadium fight, it’s going to be a red-hot ticket, the build-up’s going to be unbelievable.

"We know the narrative, we know the history, we know the legacy of the fathers, but this is a fight between a very young, hungry welterweight moving to middleweight and it’s real personal now. Real personal. You’re going to love the build-up, but you’re going to love the fight even more. This is a proper fight with real bad blood. And I can’t wait."
