Lee McGregor eyes world title shot

Lee McGregor insisted signing up to fight Nathaniel Collins was a “no brainer” because it will boost his chances of a world title bout.

The 28-year-old featherweight will face his fellow Scotsman – who is currently at number five in the WBC rankings - in Glasgow next month and he’s hoping victory will take him to bigger and better things.

Lee told Boxing News magazine: “I’ve just won the WBC international, I’ve now obviously made my mark there in with the WBC.

“And now I’ve got a big fight, an all-Scottish fight against the WBC number five.

“If I go in and beat Nathaniel, I’m going to be knocking on the door waiting on a shot at another world title, so it was a no-brainer for me.”

Lee knows it will be a “tough” fight but he’s confident in his abilities.

He said: “We’ve both got skills but I think there’s going to be a time and a moment in the fight where we just sort of lock horns and we go to fight.

“I’ve boxed Nathaniel as an amateur, I’ve sparred him many rounds.

“I do feel like I can beat him by outboxing him.

“But I know it’s going to get gritty and it will get tough and I will have to dig in and fight like back in my early days.

“That’s where I really used to come out on top and show how good I really was.

“Nathaniel’s a big featherweight, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I have him on the back foot and I’m pushing him back in this fight.”
