The controversial billionaire tech entrepreneur unveiled the self-driving prototypes Cybercab and Robovan at an event not-so-subtly titled 'We, Robot', which led to a backlash due to the similarities in the robots and those used in the 2004 Will Smith-starring sci-fi film.

The movie's helmer took to X - which is owned by Musk - to call him and Tesla out by posting the designs and writing: “Hey Elon, can I have my designs back please?”

Musk is a huge sci-fi nerd and previously shared that Tesla's electric pickup, the Cybertruck, was inspired by the 1982 Ridley Scott epic 'Blade Runner'.

Meanwhile, Musk recently made the shocking prediction that humans may die out if they do not make the move into space.

The SpaceX tycoon urged humanity to advance into orbit as asteroids passing by our planet mean that the threat of civilisation being wiped out is greater than ever.

Musk said: "One of these days, a large comet will hit Earth and destroy almost all life, as has happened many times in the past.

"Eventually, the Sun will expand enough to boil the oceans and destroy all life. Either become a spacefaring civilisation or die - those are the choices."

His stark warning came after a massive 1,150-foot asteroid passed close to the Earth in September.

The asteroid came within one million km of Earth, which was close enough to be judged as "potentially hazardous" by boffins.
