Amazon discontinues only Kindle with physical buttons

Amazon has officially discontinued the only Kindle which still has physical buttons.

The tech giant unveiled its new lineup of e-readers this week, but has now confirmed the Kindle Oasis - which was first launched as a high-end device in 2016 - will not be available once the current stock runs out.

Amazon's Devon Corvasce told The Verge: "Once current inventory of Kindle Oasis sells out online and in stores, we will not restock the device.

“Today, all of our devices are touch-forward which is what our customers are comfortable with.”

On Amazon's own listing for the device, it says the item is "currently unavailable".

The e-reader came with page turn buttons, as well as added bulk on the side which would make it easier to hold in one hand.

While it received a refresh in 2017 and 2019, Amazon hasn't updated the product in the last five years.

On Wednesday (16.10.24), Amazon unveiled its new collection of Kindle devices.

As well as one with a colour screen, the lineup also includes a second-generation Scribe, and a Paperwhite version with a larger screen.
