The 54-year-old comedian - who has appeared in the likes of 'Benidorm', 'Still Open All Hours' and 'Generation Z' - has paired up with Smart Energy GB on its campaign to help people across the UK understand the importance of smart meters.
In the new light hearted short video, Johnny books his installation, and gets advice for using it from a real installer.
He said: "Smart meters are something I hear about all the time… ‘it can help you save money…’, ‘it’s not gonna cost you anything more…’, ‘it’ll do your crossword for you…’, so, I wanted to find out what all the fuss was about.
"The first thing I did was get a film crew round, though I wouldn’t advise everyone does this.
"They captured the entire process for a new mini-series - from working out how to book in the installation, to getting the smart meter fitted.”
The majority of homes across Great Britain have a smart meter with four out of five people saying they are happy with theirs.
Johnny was helped by installer Tom, who gave him some device and debunked some myths.
The comedian added: "The installer knew exactly what he was doing on the day and even gave me some advice on how to save a few quid.
"So, if you’re still in the dark about how to get a smart meter or what to expect, check out all three episodes to find out more.
"Actually, looking back, there really isn’t that much fuss at all.”
Smart meters are available at no extra cost from your energy supplier and can help households to better manage their energy use.
The installation takes around two hours and gives you access to energy reward schemes, which financially benefit households for being more flexible in the way they use energy.
