LG launches hotel robotic vacuum cleaner

LG Electronics has collaborated with Marriott to create a robotic vacuum cleaner.

The South Korean tech firm has joined forces with the electronics division of the American hotel chain to launch The LG Robotic Vacuum Cleaner.

The red and black-coloured device has a "powerful suction performance" that makes it ideal for cleaning "expansive areas like banquet spaces and guestroom corridors overnight, minimizing guest disruption".

It knows where to clean as it is enrolled on to a custom map that is tailored to each hotel.

Its LiDAR and Vision Fusion SLAM sensor technology allows the robotic item to measure distance in difficult-to-navigate environments.

The LG Robotic Vaccum Cleaner boasts a three-litre dustbin for large debris to be dropped into.

It also comes with a multi-language mobile application and a cloud-based management platform so that hotel staff can check its cleaning progress, its battery level, its whereabouts in the hotel or resort, as well as other data points for them to "efficiently manage multiple units within a building simultaneously".

Michael Kosla, Senior Vice President of LG Electronics USA, said: "This is a prime example of how our collaboration with the Marriott Design Lab is advancing innovation for the entire industry.

"The LG Robotic Vacuum Cleaner is a robust, user-friendly vacuum cleaning solution that hotel associates can operate, providing the best possible automated vacuum cleaning of floors in corridors and meeting spaces.

"With demand increasing for commercial robotic vacuum cleaners and other innovations, we look forward to working with the Marriott Design Lab to bring a whole range of innovations to market."

Robert Guidice, Chief Global Operations Officer for Marriott International, said: "The LG Robotic Vacuum Cleaner is the result of collaboration between Marriott Design Lab and LG as we leverage a shared dedication to reimagining hospitality operations.

"By working together to develop and test new technologies and solutions, we aim to help hospitality associates work smarter and deliver innovations to market that will benefit the entire hospitality industry."
