New York's iconic Waldorf Astoria hotel re-opening in 2025 after major renovation

New York's iconic Waldorf Astoria hotel has been fully renovated to its "original grandeur" and is set to re-open its doors in 2025.

The art deco building on 301 Park Avenue shuttered in 2017, but Hilton is taking bookings from December 10 for spring 2025.

Luigi Romaniello, the hotel's managing director, told Travel + Leisure: "Upon returning to the property, we anticipate guests, locals, and residents to notice the thoughtful attention to detail and care that was taken with the restoration of Waldorf Astoria New York.

"Over the course of the transformation, tens of thousands of hours were invested by many craftspeople to ensure that the art deco design, rich fabrics, and materials have been restored to their original grandeur."

French interior design legend Pierre-Yves Rochon - who designed the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, as well as the Four Seasons Hotel George V and the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris, the Savoy Hotel and the Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane in London - was tasked with refreshing the historical hotel - which boasts more than 300 rooms.

He said: "Waldorf Astoria New York is a place that transcends time, and its guest rooms were designed to embody this enduring legacy. Every detail has been crafted to honor the elegance and lyricism of art deco, while inviting in light and the comforts of modern living."

The Waldorf will open a new 30,000-square-foot spa and gym, as well as a new outdoor lounge terrace.

The original Waldorf Astoria was built in two stages along Fifth Avenue and opened in 1893. It was demolished in 1929 to make way for the construction of the Empire State Building.
