Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister, Suriya Jungrungreangkit, has stated that the US Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) acknowledged significant improvements in Thailand's aviation safety following an inspection conducted from November 11 to 15, according to the Bangkok Post. While some adjustments are still needed, it is expected that Thailand will be granted a Category 1 (CAT 1) safety rating early next year with direct flights anticipated to be back from February.
Previously, in December 2015, Thailand's aviation safety rating was downgraded to Category 2 (CAT 2) due to non-compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
