Like many theme parks around the world, the Orlando site occasionally has to temporarily shut down rides for refurbishment, and now its the Astro Orbiter's turn.
In a note on the park's official website, they said: "Astro Orbiter will be temporarily closed for refurbishment beginning January 13, 2025, and is planned to reopen in the summer of 2025."
Disney World hasn't given a firm date for its reopening, while it's not clear if there are any significant changes planned or if it's simply a routine update.
The aerial carousel-type attraction launched at Magic Kingdom in 1974 as the Star Jets, which were considered the focal point of the Tomorrowland area.
In January 1994, the original ride shut down as part of a major makeover, reopening three months later as the Astro Orbiter as part of a complete overhaul to Tomorrowland.
There are a number of other ride closures at the moment, with Magic Kingdom's Beyond Big Thunder expansion, as well as a retheme of DinoLand, USA into Pueblo Esperanza, which will be an Animal Kingdom land themed on the Tropical Americas.
Recently, Disney World also confirmed the Muppets Courtyard is being turned into a new Monsters, Inc land, which means Muppet*Vision 3D, PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s will all be gone, along with other related theming.
