French tourists staying away from USA

Fewer French tourists are travelling to the USA.

The US has always been a popular destination for French tourists but due to the current political climate under President Donald Trump and increased prices, travel habits are changing and fewer tourists from France are choosing to visit the country.

At the travel agency Evaneos, bookings to the United States are down 11 per cent.

A spokesperson for Evaneos said: "Clients who had started the process gave up following Trump's arrival."

Valérie Boned, CEO of Entreprises du Voyage added: "We saw a real difference after the Oval Office episode."

It has also been noticed that there has been a serious decline in group travel too.

Tour operator AmériGo CEO Jean Eustache said: "On that front, we're almost at a standstill. These are less experienced travellers, very sensitive to the context. Individual auto tours are also affected but a bit less."

While the current political context is affecting French tourists' decision to travel to the US, another concern is the inflated prices.

Aurélien Aufort, director of the tour operator Voyamar said: "Inflation in the United States has been severe.

"Hotels, dining… Everything has gone up at least 25-30 per cent in four years, while the Euro is weak against the dollar. And this is reflected in travel prices."
