Cornwall town sees tourism boost thanks to BBC show Beyond Paradise

The Cornwall town of Looe has seen an increase in tourism and revenue since it was used as the setting for the fictional town of Shipton Abbott in the BBC drama 'Beyond Paradise'.

The BBC detective drama series - a spin-off to 'Death in Paradise' that is currently airing its third season - is filmed in the town and sees sleuth Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) solving crime in the area.

Ben Palmer, chef and owner of the sardine factory in Looe, told the BBC: "'Beyond Paradise' has had a very positive impact on the town. People are visiting us more here, which is great.

"At the restaurant we have seen a massive uptake in bookings, which is fantastic."

Palmer's business was also featured in an episode on the show but was renamed the 'Ten Mile Kitchen' for the purpose of the programme.

He said: "It was quite funny to see our restaurant turn into something else.

"People are coming down to visit us to see the set they saw on the episode so we are very lucky and privileged to have featured.

"And we've seen an uplift in bookings and I'm very positive that other businesses have too. We all need that at this time of year and it has been warmly welcomed."
